Regional Imagine Cup final 2009 - Croatia
The Croatian Imagine Cup finals took place on the 6th May in Split, with Team Explorer taking first place
The Croatian Imagine Cup 2009 Software Design Final was held at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split on 6th May 2009. It was a great event with a full classroom of attendees, including more than 100 students and professors.
It was hard to draw comparisons between this year’s competitors, making it very hard to decide on the best project. Each of the teams submitted an excellent application and delivered a fantastic presentation for the judges and the attendees on the day. There was a great atmosphere at the event.
There were three teams from three different faculties and cities in Croatia competing in the finals. Each of the teams was outstanding in presenting an application that will help to change and resolve one of the global problems.
Croatian Telecom (T-HT) was the awards sponsor and will also sponsor the Innovation Accelerator, which will be held from the 25th May to 6th June 2009 in our Microsoft Innovation Center in Varaždin for all three teams.
Winners:
1st place: Team “Explorer”, Faculty of Organization and Informatics.
They presented their application, which allows organizations to select endangered areas and publish this information to all field experts, so that the teams spend less time organizing and reporting, to allow them to work better and provide greater service quality for those in need. The application rests on Microsoft technologies; .NET Framework 3.5, .NET compact framework 3.5, LINQ, WCF, Deep Earth, Silverlight, SQL Server 2008, Windows Live SDK, Windows based mobile device, etc.
2nd place: Team “Lost in Time”, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split.
3rd place: Team “Smart Wall”, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing.
Venesa Schütz, Croatian GM: “The ICT industry constantly shows that it is a competitive market, and our experts are active participants in the intellectual and technological world community. Today our Imagine Cup finalists demonstrated that they, our future innovative and top professionals, measure up to peers from all around the world. I am sure we will further encourage the development of innovative and advanced solutions through the Innovation Accelerator program, and thus provide the opportunity for students to commercialize their ideas.“
Ratko Mutavdžić, DPE Lead: “This project is extremely important to encourage innovation and creativity amongst young people. Events such as Imagine Cup provide an opportunity for young people to contribute to society through their own projects using IT. We are very pleased to have helped to promote students and student achievements in the field of information technology, through this year’s Imagine Cup.”
