They Went Virtual. You Can Too.

Desktop Case Studies

Today, organizations must give their users access to applications and data anywhere, and from any device. Find out how customers are helping their employees to be more productive, while reducing complexity and cost for their IT departments with Microsoft virtualization solutions.

Dell

Dell, while known for excellent computing hardware, also offers technology services to help companies meet user needs. Dell developed a sequencing service for companies that use Microsoft® Application Virtualization, part of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack. With the service, companies can get virtualization applications ready within 72 hours and at predictable costs that are 50 percent of the price charged for other methods.

Tilburg University

Tilburg University serves 12,000 students in the southern part of the Netherlands, with programs in the social sciences and humanities. Though its Novell file, print, mail, and directory infrastructure had served the university for 18 years, the students and staff wanted better mobility and collaboration support in an integrated environment. The IT staff jettisoned its Novell business productivity infrastructure and is replacing it with Microsoft® programs to gain not only the desired integration, but to better support university policy of buying off-the-shelf applications. Tilburg University worked with Microsoft Gold Certified Partner Winvision to create a three-year roadmap for deploying the new infrastructure, which will enable the IT staff to easily integrate business productivity functions for increased user productivity, and to respond more quickly to user needs.

Vancouver Coastal Health

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) serves one million patients in coastal communities of British Columbia, Canada. Each of the organization’s hospitals has its own IT department and multiple ways of delivering applications to its multi-user desktops. VCH deployed Microsoft® Application Virtualization (App-V) and, as a result, accelerated application deployment, improved application access, and simplified recovery. It will continue deploying virtual applications and adopt virtualization as its deployment strategy.

Humber College

Humber College serves more than 19,000 full-time and 55,000 part-time students in Ontario, Canada. With 60 computer labs and more than 80 operating system images, the college found it challenging to deploy applications quickly and to manage image size. It used Microsoft® Application Virtualization to virtualize 60 applications. As a result, it reduced its image size, reduced deployment time, anticipates lower licensing costs, and is quick to respond to user needs.
